This all about the Japanese Futon Bed, after all, the word “Futon” really did come from the same Japanese term – Futon.

Futon is a term that refers to the traditional style of Japanese bedding. If you ever watched any kind of movies involving Japanese, or Japanese culture say like “Karate Kid” for example, you have definitely saw an example of a Japanese Futon Bed.

Basically, A japanese futon bed consists of a padded mattress and quilts that is pliable enough so that it can be folded with the purpose of safekeeping or easy storage. By doing so, the bedroom can instantly become another room, making the bedroom a multi purpose room.

For those Japanese that has been ‘westernized’, that’s is they already have an influence of the West, many Japanese today sleep in beds, the conventional beds. But there are those who prefers to use the Futons that spread on the floor.

Small couches which turn into beds are often called futon, but they are very different from traditional Japanese futon. A traditional Japanese futon set includes shikibuton (under futon), kakebuton (comforters), and makura (pillow).
